Why Should You Consolidated Credit Card Debt? |
Credit Cards are very useful when used as short-term unsecured loans. But if you allow
a balance be carried, you are harming your potential of paying off your debts. Compound the effect by carrying many high credit card debts, and you really can get yourself into trouble.
Another point of why you should consolidate credit card debt, is that many lending institutions set interest rates based on time, and amount being borrowed. If you have a lot of debt, and it's going to take time to pay off, some banks understand that they will make a good return on your credit card debt, so they reduce interest rates based on your credit and store card debt. |

Have I ever Consolidated Credit Card Debt? |
You bet! When I was younger, I had a collection of credit cards. The intentions were good (I'm sure just like any young-adult today with a student credit card ), I would purchase small items and pay the debt asap. Rotating cards making appear I was managing my money well to any person checking my credit history. Well, I too fell on hard times. I used my credit cards to pay for relocation expenses, and bills associated with a new job, after a long unemployment period. My great credit( for my age) provided me many credit cards with high limits. So I needed to consolidate all my credit and store card balances into one loan, which reduced my interest rate, and protected my credit ratings by not trying to balancing the pay off of 4 credit cards at once, and missing a payment. |

Credit Card Debt Consolidation Work? |
| You bet, even if I couldn't get a better rate than my best credit card, having all the credit card balances converted into one debt consolidation loan helped. It reduced the chance I was likely to miss a payment. I don't have to remind anyone what a missed credit card payment fee is like, and why you don't want to ever do that. ;) Also, sometimes a good credit card settlement can put you on the right track to good financial planning to get out of debt fast. |

Consolidated Credit Card Debt part of a Get Out of Debt Plan? |
Now each person has different financial needs, and proper financial planning is key to a good financial future; So, results might vary, but for me having my credit card debt consolidated worked. I have to tell you that my plan to get out of debt did involve consolidating all my credit card debt, and getting rid of the credit cards. Not having many cards prevented me from losing track of balances, and just running up on card's limit, and then the next. So consolidating the debt was on half of the solution, getting rid of opportunities to run up more debt was the other half. Personally, I liked the idea of consolidating credit card debt, just for having one single payment a month, and the payment was designed with the intentions of actually paying off the loan. Credit Card minimums seem to perpetuated the debt life, although, no one was twisting my arm to ONLY pay the minimum monthly payment. Remember that when you see your bill this month. :D
Remember, only you can get out of debt, only you, but with the aid of a good financial planner, having things explained to you, following a financial plan should be easier. Especially if financial goals are worked into the plan, and you can see actual financial mile-stones passed. Good luck! |
